FCV Academy earned a 3-3 draw away at Aylestone Park in the Total Motion Midland Football League U21 to make it five matches unbeaten in the competition.
The hosts started the brighter of the two sides, but failed to capitalise on their early pressure and were punished when FCV struck twice within the first 30 minutes.
Some excellent work from Brandon Taverner saw him set up short course student James Donaldson on the edge of the box. The Irishman provided a fine finish to put FCV a goal up.
Taverner was involved again in the visitors’ second goal. His well-struck free-kick was parried by the home goalkeeper, and Khalid Rahim pounced on the rebound to make it 2-0.
Ayslestone then got themselves back into the match. A free-kick into the FCV Academy box was not cleared, and the hosts bundled the ball over the line.
The scores were then levelled five minutes before half-time, and it was down to another lapse of defensive concentration. A misplaced pass resulted in Aylestone finishing off a one-on-one with FCV ‘keeper Kyle De Garis.
With the wind in the hosts’ sails, they made it 3-2 shortly after the break. Aylestone’s front-man was afforded too much space – he turned and fired a fine low effort into the bottom corner, 3-2.
FCV began to push for an equaliser, and Taverner again stepped up to the mark, but this time as the scorer. Henry Moss fed the ball into the second-year scholar; the striker then cut in and fired a fine effort into the top-left corner from 22 yards out to make it 3-3.
The point leaves FCV third in the Total Motion Midland Football League U21.
