FCV Academy ran out 4-0 winners in their Total Motion Midland Football League U21 fixture with AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday at Borderville.
The hosts began on the front foot and moved the ball quickly, as they seeked an early breakthrough.
They didn’t have to wait long to take the lead either, with Khalid Rahim prodding home, following good initial work from Brandon Taverner, who flicked on a Luke Oswick throw-in.
That advantage was doubled shortly after, when T’ai Williams crossed for Rahim to slide home.
As proceedings edged towards the break, FCV remained in control, but they couldn’t manage to add a third ahead of the interval, despite more dangerous attacking play.
After the restart, the game settled back into a similar pattern, with Grant Brown’s men dictating things, and seeking further goals.
The third of those came at the midway point of the second period, as Harry Whittington scored with a fine solo effort, which eventually saw him coolly slot the ball home into the bottom corner.
Lewis Saunders grabbed his side’s fourth of the match with a good finish from a tight angle and, even though they had more opportunities to add further strikes, it proved to be a very satisfactory outing for the home team.
