FCV Academy started their National League U19 Alliance Division H campaign in fine style on Wednesday, defeating Loughborough Dynamo 3-0 away from home.
Khalid Rahim, Brandon Taverner and Marcel Rzeszutek were all on target, as Grant Brown’s side recorded a comfortable triumph.
The away side started strong, and made good decisions both in and out of possession. They created a number of chances early on, but the hosts also provided a threat on the break.
However, FCV continued to have joy down the sides of hosts and they eventually got their reward. Excellent play in the wide areas saw a rasping shot parried into the path of an onrushing Rahim, who stabbed home — sending the away side in with a deserved lead.
After the restart, FCV doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, thanks to good work from Harry Whittington. Taverner was the man who dispatched the kick, to subsequently put the Academy 2-0 up.
Then came an instant impact off the substitutes bench, as Rzeszutek extended the away team’s advantage to 3-0. He picked the ball up on the edge of the area and then drove into the box, before slotting the ball home coolly to all but wrap up the win.
Focus then shifted to closing out the game with a clean sheet, but there would be one final scare for the coaching staff and the FCV players. However, this scare was negotiated expertly, as ‘keeper Kyle De Garis made a superb save to deny Loughborough from the spot and, in turn, preserve the Academy’s three-goal lead.
