FCV Reds turned in a terrific December display to defeat Peterborough United 3-0 in a friendly fixture, and head coach Grant Brown insisted his players got no more than they deserved.
Amir Ajaj opened the scoring for FCV, who went in 1-0 up at the break.
After the interval, Felipe Frugone Perez doubled the visitors’ advantage, before Kyle De Garis produced a terrific penalty save to preserve his side’s two-goal lead. A third would soon arrive, as Ramon Egloff added further gloss to the scoreline. The mature manner of the performance really stood out and, following the conclusion of proceedings, positive words were delivered by the Posh coaching staff.
Brown declared: “We did well in the game, and it was one where the boys were keen and eager to impress.
“There were a lot of good performances, and we controlled the match quite well. They had spells where they did have the ball, but we managed to limit their opportunities to score.
“They had a few players who were a threat to us, and we recognised that by limiting them and letting them have the ball in deep areas. A lot of game understanding was shown in order to do that, while also looking a threat every time we went forward.”
“We gave the opposition something to think about. We spoke to the Peterborough coaches after the game and they were impressed — that’s always good to hear.”
